Deerfield Trip in June

06/12/2014 - 10:00
06/14/2014 - 10:59

Hi,

The next Monadnock TU Field Trip is coming together! The trip is planned for June 12 - 14. There is a cabin being reserved and the tentative plans are for a day of floating with the Harrison's with wading for those who wish to do that. The float trip would be in half day parcels subject to the number of people who wish to go. Lew, Larry, Ed and Tim are working on getting this together. As more information is ready, we'll send it out and post it here.

A nice Deerfield rainbow.

January Meeting with biologists discussing climate change and trout populations

01/16/2014 - 18:30
01/16/2014 - 20:30

Hi all,
The January meeting will feature
Eric Orff and Loren Valliere, of the National Wildlife Federation, discussing climate change and the effect on trout populations. The full description is below. The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm at the Dublin Public Library. Hope to see you all there!
Mike

Today, if you were asked what the biggest threat to wildlife species might be, what would you say? Biologists Eric Orff and Loren Valliere would strongly agree that the biggest conservation issue we’re all facing is climate change, and they’re coming to Monadnock Trout Unlimted to discuss this very issue. New Hampshire itself is already feeling the effects of pollution that contributes to climate change. Strange weather patterns and changes in our seasons are affecting our very way of life, and conservation groups across the country are urging people to notice the many signs and act on addressing the climate issue. The National Wildlife Federation is reaching out to sportsmen & women about climate change and it’s impacts on wildlife, because lawmakers want to hear from these groups in particular. Biologists will discuss current research that includes serious declines in moose and shrimp populations, movement trends in bird species, problems with cold water streams and trout, and the many signs of climate change effects. Together, we can look at some of the evidence in our own state, discuss some of the upcoming issues and related threats, and take action to reverse our negative impacts on our wildlife species.

On Nov 2 there will be a group going to the Deerfield River for a day of fishing. There is a space or two open with the Harrison Brothers drifting the river. This is a half or whole day opportunity. Also, Tim will lead the wading crowd to some great fishing. If you are interested, email me and I will pass the information on to the trip leaders. Please include a phone # for those last minute arrangements.
