Board of Directors Meeting Minutes - 11/12

12/30/2009 - 18:00
12/30/2009 - 20:59

Thurs. 11/12/09 BOD Minutes - Attending - Tood Worden, Tal Gregory, Justin Neutra, Sara Neutra, Jim Sullivan, Don Rodenheiser, Mike Maynard and Mike Elkavitch

A. We welcome Justin and Sara Neutra, the new treasurers, to the BOD and thank Jim Sullivan for his years of the balancing the checkbook act. Justin and Sara Take over immediately.

B. 20/20 Raffle - the discussion concerned when to start and how many tickets to sell. The consensus appears to sell at least 250 with a possible ceiling of 300. Mike E. will contact Tim McMahon about the "old" tickets. Tal will also look into the templates used previously for the printing. Don will handle the raffle itself and take care of the drawings. The thought is to sell tickets perhaps at the area town dumps, er, recycling centers where everybody goes. As soon as the tickets are ready, we'll get them to members.

C. Christmas Party - this will be Thursday, Dec. 17 and we plan to have some pizza, perhaps some pot luck and raffles. The raffles will need to have some prizes, so anyone who ties is invited to do a few for the chapter. Any other raffle prizes or ideas about prizes, send to Mike E.

D. Trout and Salmon in the classroom - we first need to find out where the equipment and then reallocate it if needed. Mike M is going to check at Hancock Elem, Mike E and Mike M will contact Judy Tomosa at Fish and Game and see what we need, permits etc, and where some of the equipment that Fish and Game may loaned is. Tal will look into what is in Keene. The Harris Center was also brought up as a possible site for a chiller.

E. NH TU Trout Camp - our camper this year, ConVal Student Forrest Barwood, had a tremendous time and we feel it is worthwhile to send another camper. Mike E. has the brochure and will make it available to members for distribution to HS students who are interested. The NH TU Council has taken charge of this venture and all submissions go to them.

F. Hancock Fly Pond - thanks to Mike Maynard, we can utilize this small pond in Hancock. We need to plan for the spring to get in and do some light work and make it better to use.

G. The discussion concerning priorities produced the following:
1. We need to find projects/an area of a river to concentrate our efforts on and bring more people in
as they see evidence of what we are trying to do.

2. Projects include:
a. Trout Camp - this consists of distributing the flyers for camp and guiding prospective
campers. Not to mention money to send the the NH TU Council.
b. Fishing Derby - Don has run this activity in Peterborough for a lot of years and while we do
not gain in money, we gain in exposure. Volunteers will be needed and Don suggested we
look in nooks and crannies and donate unwanted equipment to the kids.
c. Trout in the Classroom - Mike E, Mike M and Tal will all work on various aspects of this
endeavor to get some equipment in Peterborough and provide chillers etc where needed.
d, Hancock Fly Pond - Mike M and Mike E will work on some plans to use this resource to our
advantage.
e. 20/20 - this provides funds for the programs such as Trout in the Classroom. The tickets
and logistics just need to be gotten together to get this running.
3. Where do we go from here?
The discussion brought some thoughts. We should find an area of a river, for example, he
Asheleot, and designate a section to clean and "steward". Mike E will ask Eric Swope, our speaker
this Thursday, the 19th, for his thoughts. Gabe Gries, from Fish and Game, is another who might
be able to steer us to an area. The Souhegan and Contoocook are other possibilities. This would
give us a "home water" to work on and from.
Membership is an issue in that we have lots of people nominally in the chapter but where are
they? How can we get them to meetings, would a project such as above help?
Mike E will look into organizations such as the Conn River Valley Council in terms of membership,
what they are doing, can we help them, can they help us?
TU National is holding their annual convention in NH, is there anything we might do?
Casting for Recovery is struggling financially, is there anything we might do?
